Brendan and I got engaged on December 5th, 2015 and were married just a year and a half later! When we got engaged, we were just two little college kids who had absolutely no clue what we were doing with our lives. We were both totally clueless as to what marriage or planning a wedding would involve, but we both knew that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.
When I look at our engagement photos that were taken the May before our wedding, I see two young kids (we look like babies, honestly) who were totally lost but madly in love. I see the nervousness in ourselves for what the future held, and the excitement in tackling it together. I see meal planning on a budget, trying to save to pay for our college parking permit and the bills. I see lots of Pinterest pins, tons of Say Yes to the Dress, and driving all over town to figure out where we wanted our photos taken.
More than our wedding day, I remember our engagement – those long few months of planning, excitement, nervousness and joy over what was to come. We had absolutely no idea where the future would take us, and that was as exciting as it was nerve-wrecking. I think one of the most joyous parts of finding your soul mate at a young age is getting to figure out all the crazy parts together. Planning for all of the parts of the future is impossible, but it is always fun to dream up crazy ideas with your best friend.
To everyone who got engaged young, I hope you enjoy all of these crazy and wild, but exciting and joyous times. More than anything, I hope you appreciate how much fun it is to take on the world with your favorite person by your side!
